Hi,
I also have a dr600 1985 model for 3 years and I live in the UK. I have problems with starting, auto-decompression valve sometimes sticks open, I think (needs lubricating.Mines done about 35000 miles and does burn a bit of oil (maybe needs overhaul)A While ago the bike completely died after numerous engine cutouts, after lots of fault electrical fault investigating,(CDI unit/ignition coil/continuity checks/stop switch etc I eventually found the problem. The Wiring insulation on the AC Coil and the pick-up sensors had broken down and was shorting. This caused the bike to cutout randomly then finally died all together.(Most embarrising at the time)This was a hard fault to find and might be of interest to you for future reference.Generally the bike is a bugger start if it's left for a period of time.Carb jets is the next job, clean them out,due to fuel going off this leaves a residue which can block jets causing starting problems and erratic tickover.I also left my disc lock on if thats any consolation.Hope this helps,Andy
